Alrune Rod - Alrunes Rod - 1969 (Den) Heavy Psych

Formed in 1968 Alrune Rod (Mandrake Root) played long trippy psych/acid rock songs as well as more mellow acoustic pieces. The band was formed by Leif Roden (bass, guitar, vocals, compositions & lyrics), Flemming Giese Rasmussen (guitar, vocals), Kurt "Pastor" Ziegler Simonsen (organ) and Claus From (drums). They faced several changes concerning the line-up during the early 70's with Leif Roden as the only constant member of the band. The band released several albums during the the early 70's (including a few live records) as well as a single in the late 60's. Most of their songs were in Danish and only one album with English lyrics was ever released. Almost all their stuff has been reissued and re-released later. Live they would often expand their songs to last for sometimes almost half an hour. Here is some footage of Alrune Rod in the studio with Danish narration. The album was produced by Franz Beckerlee of Gasolin'.

This album contains some strong songs with heavy riffing and atmospheric music and starbound vocals. Imagine Pink Floyd's psychedelic early years, but heavier and even more psychedelic, more melancholic and more trippy, that is pretty much what this record has to offer, don't hesitate to listen to this one. Overall it is one of the finest records to ever be released by a Danish band.
Unfortunately Leif Roden past away in 2010 (which really annoys me, because I never managed to attend one of the band's gigs). May he forever rest in peace.

Young Flowers - Blomsterpistolen - 1968 (Den) Blues Psych

Behold! The finest mixture of Danish psychedelic blues ever to be released; Blomserpistolen (the Flower Gun!). If you dig the late 60's blues psych bands - this record will blow your mind. Young Flowers formed in Copenhagen in the summer of '67 by Jens Dahl (guitar), Peter Ingemann (bass & vocals) and Ken Gudman (drums). Ken and Jens had been playing together in the beat-group "the Defenders" and Peter Ingemann came from another beat-group called Seven Sounds. They released a single during '67 called Like Birds after this release saw the light of day, the guitarist Jens Dahl left the group and was replaced by Peer Frost (who formerly had been playing with Peter Belli & Les Rivals). Young Flowers were very inspired by rock and blues power trios like The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream and Canned Heat. These influences can be heard very easily in Young Flowers' music. This record contains great solos, nice trippy bluesy vocals and a nostalgic feeling of the late 60's (which I don't know anything about, because I wasn't there, but anyway!). Overall a fantastic record!

Ache - De Homine Urbano - 1970 (Den) Progressive Rock

Ache was a Danish progressive rock band formed 1968 by Torsten Olafsson (bass & vocals), Peter Mellin (hammond organ), Finn Olafsson (guitar) and Glenn Fischer (drums).
This line-up recorded and released two albums before splitting up in 1971. The band was later reformed with another personnel later in the 70's. Here is some footage of Ache playing, explicit organ.

In the summer of 1969 they composed music for the ballet "Homo" (the track "De Homine Urbano") as well as another coherent piece called "Little Things". These two tracks were released in 1970 as the band's first album. It contains lots of nice early prog elements and especially a great use of the hammond organ.

Moses - Changes - 1971 (Den) Hard Rock

Little is known about this gem, but I've done my best retrieving information about the group and this is what I came up with. Moses were a Danish power trio formed in Esbjerg in 1969. Musically they played very blues inspired hard rock. In my opinion they are the Danish version of Black Sabbath. The album contains some rocking solos, nice heavy riffs and classic 70's lyrics, but Moses also suffer from the fact that their singer had a very strong Danish accent, which may ruin the record for some. Unfortunately this was the only album they ever released. The band consisted of Søren Højbjerg (guitar), Jørgen Villadsen (bass & vocals) & Henrik Laurvig (drums & vocals).

The original record from Spectator Records was only released in an amount of a thousand, but it has been re-released on cd as well as lp by a German record company.
Before Moses, Jørgen Villadsen and Søren Højbjerg had played together in the blues band Fresh Boiled.
It is believed that Søren Højbjerg today is the head of a booking buruea.
Henrik Laurvig is today the tour manager of the Danish blues musician Johnny Madsen as well as a salesman and a concert-organizer.

Parkering Forbudt - s/t - 1979 (Den) Rock/Blues Rock

Parkering Forbudt (Parking Forbidden) was a Danish rock band formed in 1978. The band consisted of Fox Nilfisk (guitar & vocals), Don Martin (guitar & vocals), Drezz (bass & vocals) and Grev Lynhe (drums). What is so special about this band is that all the members were kids when they recorded it. In Denmark in the late 70's and early 80's a wave of children started playing rock as a rebellion against the conservative society that they lived in. Parkering Forbudt were the leading band of this era. Their lyrics deal with subjects like drugs, politics and love. The album contains some strong bluesy songs with good (although childish) vocals, killer guitar solos and a good rhythm section. This band expressed their opinions and stepped forth for what they believed. If you are sceptical that children can play music - this record is for you.
They released a few more albums during the 80's with some changes in the line-up, but if you ask me this is their best piece of work.
Grev Lynhe would later appear as the drummer for Stig Møller Trio. Stig Møller was the guitarist in the Danish psych band Steppeulvene.
